ReCreate a Famous Artwork
Choose an artist and style that you would like to reinterpret in a work of art. First... Write a paragraph about the artist: where and when they were born, where did they go to school, what style of art are they most famous for. Share several facts about the art movement they are known for. Give at least one interesting fact about your artist that your audience may not know. This paragraph should be typed and glued into your sketchbook with a photocopy of the painting you will reinterpret.
Second.. Paint...Draw….Collage… Copy... But don't just steal their style, steal the thinking behind the style. You don't want to look like your artist, you want to see like your artist. The reason to copy their style is so that you might somehow get a glimpse into their minds. That's what you really want - to internalize their way of looking at the world. "If you just mimic the surface of somebody's work without understanding where they are coming from, your work will never be anything more than a knockoff." - Auston Kleon
